Christmas Craft Night at Lolly's

Every time I go to my friend Lolly's, I pass this little house with a very lightning-damaged tree out front. There is a little sign that says Mailli's Fairy Tree on it. I think it is so sweet so I snapped a picture at a stoplight. Mailli's fairy tree Christmas Craft Night at Lolly's.... every year she hosts a party where she does mountains of work beforehand, and we show up and have all the fun. In the past we have made angels, santas, and this year we made our choice of a santa or an elf. Bodies, heads, and feet were all prepared for us. We assembled and painted. Aren't they cute?

This is me at 2.5 years pedaling our old player piano. Photo evidence that I was 1) tan and 2) blonde

We had an old player piano that my mom toiled over to refinish when we lived in Florida. It was the early 70s, and in style was that off-white finish with black flecks… I thought it was the most hideous thing ever, but man, did I ever, ever love that piano.

It had two big flat paddles that you had to pedal to make it go. When I was little, and too small to really reach them, I’d hang off the front of the bench and pedal away. We have pictures. Mom had lots of rolls for it. The roll you were playing was hidden behind a sliding door right in front of your face as you sat at the seat.

It had a lever up toward the top register, under the keys, that when you pulled it, the keys would freeze. Sometimes when I was practicing and mom would come bully me out of the way to show me how to play something properly, I’d sneak my hand under and at a dramatic moment, freeze the keys. She’d laugh, she wouldn’t get angry. I thought it was hilarious.

That piano moved with us from Florida, to Minnesota, to Connecticut, to Colorado. And there it died; the extreme dry weather in Colorado was the death knell and the soundboard cracked. At that time, I was playing a lot, and was pretty good, so dad decided to buy me a “real” piano and got the parlor grand baldwin that is still at Mom’s house, and we traded in the old player.

I wish I still had that piano. How I loved it.

Mom sent me a picture! I was 2.5 years old here. And blonde. And tan.

My tidy makeup organizers

This is far from all of my makeup, but it is a good portion of it. I have a billion urban decay eye pencils. Every so often I sort through my ton of makeup. I should do it more often than I currently do! I got the organizers at Office depot and the little glasses are tealights, great for shorter pencils and tiny things.

Beauty Broadcast & Emily

http://www.beautybroadcast.net/
I've become completely obsessed with Emily's Beauty Broadcast blog and her youtube videos. She does a lot of great reviews on drug store makeup, which I LOVE, and reviews high-end products, too. She is rather disgustingly beautiful so I'm not too sure how helpful her tutorials are, because, try as I might, I really don't look anything like her when I'm done. Still, she seems very sweet, has a cat that she adores, and has a neat personality on camera.  Check her out. This is a recent Walmart Haul. It's all Emily's fault.

took this pic after work last week

My company posted this picture on our internal website that I took of our campus after work. I got such a nice response from a lot of people asking what camera I used, what type of lens, etc...

I felt a little sheepish admitting it was just my iphone with a camera+ app filter. They were sort of acting like I am a master photographer!

Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to Turn Left at the Kitten Billboard, a blog I'm starting with little expectation that anybody will actually read it except, perhaps, me. I wanted a little corner of the Internet where I could play a little. Don't expect a lot of drama, as I've posted drama in the past and have been heartily sorry for it each and every time.

I didn't know what to call my blog. I love animals, dolls, toys, knitting, crocheting, nail polish, movies/TV (HGTV in particular), reading, and makeup (not necessarily in that order). Animals will always come first on that list. I didn't want to pigeonhole my blog by calling it a "doll lover's blog" or "me loves to snorgle puppies." Therefore, I came up with a quote I've said more than once in my lifetime that speaks to my particularly hopeless sense of direction. Whenever somebody would say "Go East on..." I would have to interrupt and say, "Look, unless the sun is rising or setting at that particular moment, I have no idea where East is. If you could tell me to turn left at the kitten billboard, THAT I can handle."

Here, you can expect to see random makeup and nail polish reviews, doll talk, craft talk, home improvement talk, pet talk. Sounds scintillating, doesn't it? I thought so, too.

Today's post is brought to you by the letter "M." Peace out.
